How to make sure it is Bacterial Vaginosis?
Since there are other forms of vaginal
infection, some of them belong to the group of sexually transmitted diseases,
it is best to make sure that what you have is BV.
To know if you have BV, check out the symptoms
and if you have any of the symptoms, you should get medically tested.
Symptoms
BV is manifested by
different symptoms. It is important to note that the symptoms differ from one
person to another. In fact, except for the discharge, some people do not
experience any other symptoms.
In other words, you know
your body better than anyone else. If you think any of the following symptoms
is because of BV, seek medical help to determine if it is really BV or not.
1. Vaginal
discharge – the discharge is more than normal and comes in the color of milky
white or gray.
2. Bad
odor – it is a distinct fishy odor. Depending on the person, it may be
consistent or sporadic. The smell is also strongest after having sex.
3. Coating
on vaginal walls – these coatings are from the discharge. They cover the walls
of the vagina.
4. Itching
or burning sensation – the itching and the burning sensation can be the most
difficult thing about BV. Similar with the odor, it may be sporadic or
constant; and strongest after sex.
Take note that some of these
symptoms may be caused by other conditions. In fact, the other vaginal
infections, such as thrush, have the same symptoms. It is best therefore to
consult a doctor if you are suffering from any of the symptoms.
Moreover, since you are
pregnant it is really important to see your doctor immediately because BV can
have negative effects on your baby.
