More on the truth about antibiotics and BV
Antibiotics
are generally recommended by doctors with BV since infections are controlled by
antibiotics. However, there are certain important things you have to consider
about antibiotics before taking them for BV:
·
They have side effects
Some
of the short-term side effects of antibiotics include depression, lethargy and
stomach upset. The long-term effects
include weakening of teeth and weakening of intestinal walls.
Continuous
use of antibiotics also weakens the immune system. In some extreme cases, it
can also cause respiratory problems.
·
They may lead to the development of thrush
or yeast infection
Overuse
of antibiotics may cause overgrowth of the yeast called Candida albicans.
Candida albicans can cause thrush, another condition that is caused by
overgrowth of bacteria in parts of the body. So, instead of treating BV, you
might end up having thrush.
This
is quite common because thrush is caused by overgrowth of the yeast. The
antibiotic weakens the immune system and makes the body acidic. Thus, the
acidic condition of the body, as well as the weakening of the immune system
(which is also brought about by taking antibiotics) will make your body the
perfect place for the yeast to grow and multiply. This will eventually lead to
Candida yeast infection or thrush.
This
yeast infection may develop in the vagina, the mouth, the armpits and even in
the urinary tract. Many women feel that they are also suffering from urinary
tract infection because of this.
·
You cannot take them on an empty stomach
You
cannot take antibiotics on an empty stomach as this will cause stomach upset
and even diarrhoea. And since you will be taking antibiotics several times a
day, you cannot go on a diet while taking them
The
best treatment for BV therefore is not antibiotics. So before taking
antibiotics, consider first the other alterative treatments. They are as
effective, simple and cheaper solutions.
