What are the good and bad bacteria in BV
For
clarity’s sake we previously discussed (in previous posts) good and bad
bacteria in the development of BV. Scientifically there are no good and bad
bacteria. They are needed by the body to create the perfect balance that is
needed for the body’s well being. Only when the bacteria causes harm is it
considered as bad bacteria, such as when it overgrows.
Bacteria
are naturally present in our body. An example is the bacteria in our digestive
system. These bacteria help the body in digesting food. The bacteria in our
body produce short chain fatty acids (SCFA). These short chain fatty acids
produce acids in the body. The acids then control the other bacteria which, in
excess, can be harmful to the body. Normally, the pH of the acids that are
produced by the SCFA is less than 7. With this right level the body can easily
absorb minerals.
When
it comes to BV, if the pH level is higher in the vaginal area, the ‘bad’
bacteria in the vagina can easily multiply. This is then the start of Bacterial
Vaginosis. As the pH level increases, your BV will get worse.
